Why "Consulting Partner"? Because the name is the promise

People ask about the name. Usually with one eyebrow raised, because let's be honest, both words have been fairly well devalued by the industry that owns them. So let me tell you what they mean when I use them, and why this business exists at all.

The trouble with "partner"

In the big consultancies, Partner is a rank. It's the person who charms you at the pitch, prices the engagement, and reappears at the final playback to accept your thanks for work done by people you'd never met until week one. The title describes their position in the firm, not their relationship with you.

Consultants visit. Partners sit on your side of the table.

Here, partner is a job description. It means your numbers are the ones I care about, your constraints are the ones I work within, and when I tell you something you'd rather not hear, well, that's the job too. The person you meet is the person who does the work, and the person who does the work has skin in your outcome, because a one-man business lives and dies by whether last month's client would recommend him.

Why I built this

For twenty-odd years I was parachuted into large, complicated organisations when something needed fixing, scaling, integrating or deciding. Somewhere along the way a pattern became impossible to ignore: the problems repeat. The founder-bottleneck I untangled in a global firm's regional business is the same knot in a fifteen-person recruitment agency. The integration that stalled between two banks stalls for exactly the same reason between two merging accountancy practices. The £3m business and the $3bn business hit the same walls, in the same order.

Here's the part that should annoy you: the lessons already exist. Enterprises paid the tuition, millions of pounds of it, in failed programmes, slow integrations, restructures and the occasional raised eyebrow from a regulator. The knowledge is sitting there, fully paid for. It just rarely travels down-market, because the firms that hold it price it for the clients who funded the education. Nobody, it turns out, sells the answers to the businesses that could act on them fastest.

That's the whole economic argument, and it's why the sums work at prices a smaller business can justify. When a consultant meets your problem for the first time, you fund their education: the discovery phase, the workshops, the slow circling towards a diagnosis. When I meet your problem for the fifth or fifteenth time, you fund recognition, and recognition is fast. Fast is cheap. A day of pattern-matching from someone who has seen the film before replaces a month of research from someone who hasn't.

Low cost is designed in. So is low risk.

The cost side is simple: you rent exactly the fraction of an executive you need, by the day, the month or the project. No recruitment fee, no ramp-up, no severance exposure. The risk side is the part I'm most deliberate about: every engagement ends with a written plan you could execute without me. Retainers carry 30 days' notice. Projects are fixed-price with defined acceptance. If a Diagnostic Day turns out not to be worth it, you've lost a day, not a hire. Compare that with the two conventional routes: a full-time director (six months to find, six figures a year, severance risk if it sours) or a big-firm engagement (six figures before the Partner remembers your name). The risk isn't just lower. It's a different species.

So: Consulting Partner. Senior only, because you get the person with the scars. Actionable always, because partners don't leave you with a deck, they leave you with a plan. Right-sized commercially, because the whole point is that enterprise experience should be rentable by the businesses that benefit from it most.
